Looking for a more adventurous experience? On a shoestring budget? The Hostel on the island can provide a comfortable bed, a nice community shower area, and some ala cart food options to keep you fueled for your next adventure!

Walking

Taniti City is fairly flat and very walkable. Many tourists stay in the area surrounding Merriton Landing: this area is easy to explore on foot. Come and visit the local commerce, meet the local inhabitants and see all the breathtaking views in a carbon neutral way! Help us keep the island as beautiful and prestine for many generations to come!

Bike Rentals

If you prefer to get aroung quickly or you are looking to travel the island, bike rentals are available in several locations. Biking helps keep motor traffic to a minimum and allows you faster travel with the ability to pull over and take pictures or have a picnic without having to find available parking! Bikes and helmets are available to rent from several vendors (helmets are required by law).

Car Rentals

If you wish to seek some of the more remote parts of the island, have young kids, or those who are not up for walks or Biking, you can rent a car to cruise around and see the sites while maintaining a comfortable temperature and carrying more necessities.Taxis are available in Taniti City, and rental Cars can be rented from a local rental agency near the airport.

Public Transport

If you are traveling in large groups or would rather take in the sites and not be bothered to focus on driving, the island has a number of bus routes available. A schedule can be provided at any stop location and the fees are minimal. Public Buses serve Taniti City and run from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. Private Buses serve the rest of the island.

There are 10 marvelous Restaurants on Taniti. 5 will provide you local cuisine, consisting mostly of fish and rice. 3 Server American style cuisine, in case you want a taste of America. The last 2 serve delicious Pan-Asian cuisine!

Whether you care to stay in the city and take in local arcitecture, or chill out on our white sand beaches that circle Yellow Leaf Bay. You could take a hike in the rainforest or visit the Active Volcano!

About Taniti

Taniti is a small, tropical island in the Pacific. While the island has an area of less than 500 square miles, the terrain is varied and includes both sandy and rocky beaches, a small but safe harbor, lush tropical rainforests, and a mountainous interior that includes a small, active volcano. Taniti has an indigenous population of about 20,000. Until a recent increase in tourism, most the Tanitian economy was dominated by fishing or agriculture.

  • Two serve Pan-Asian cuisine

  • One convenience store that is open 24 hours a day

Frequently Requested Information:

  • Power outlets are 120 volts (the same as in the United States)
  • Alcohol is not allowed to be served or sold between the hours of midnight and 9:00 a.m.
  • The drinking age on Taniti is 18 and the drinking age is not strictly enforced.
  • Many younger Tanitians speak fluent English. Very little English is spoken in rural areas, especially by the older residents.
  • There is one hospital and several clinics. The hospital has many multilingual employees.
  • Violent crime is very rare on Taniti, but as tourism increases, there are more reports of pickpocketing and other petty crimes.
  • Taniti enjoys a large number of national holidays, and many tourist attractions and Restaurantss will be closed on holidays, so visitors should plan accordingly.
  • Taniti uses the U.S. dollar as its currency, but many businesses will also accept euros and yen. Several banks facilitate currency exchange, and many businesses accept major credit cards.
